I’ve decided not to post on this tumblr anymore, I’ve opted to just use my tumblr account’s. I hope this site works it out so that there wouldn’t be so many glitches when trying to use another tumblr more actively than the account you signed up for. I got to college in Honolulu. It takes me a less than 30 minutes to walk to Waikiki. Jeff is pretty much acting like every douchebag that comes here on vacation. Aviator sunglasses and ghettoblasters are a staple of these party-loving tourists that walk back and forth through the 5 blocks that make up Waikiki, every night.

I like them, they’re fun.
I have stopped and danced with them. It was like that scene with Sid Vicious and the children in the vacant lot in Sid & Nancy. Sometimes you just have to let go of your inhibitions and dance with them. I’m being completely serious about this.

Sick Week Movies

The last few days, I’ve spent horribly sick with one of the worst colds ever. The time away from class had only one plus side- I got to watch a lot of DVDs that have been piling up over the past few weeks; some, I’ve even had the time to listen to the special feature commentary of.

The first one I want to mention is the documentary Cinemania. I had the urge to view it after taking the infamous “How Many of These Movie Have You Seen?” meme on Facebook. I got 200+ and was seriously questioning my sanity, those Ocean’s Eleven franchise really hurt me on my count- I’ve only seen the original (the one with Frank Sinatra). Cinemania is a documentary on people who actually have a problem with watching too many movies. They watch up to 5 a day! One of them frequently becomes violent when it comes to going to a film showing. I liked the documentary in that it didn’t have a judgement filter. The people featured didn’t seem to be acting out of the ordinary, and none ever played to the camera. Even though the subject was serious, the film would have to be a comedy of sorts. Never did I feel sorry for these people, and that’s nice to see in a documentary like this.

I just finished watching Boy In the Striped Pyjamas tonight. I got it knowing that it would end with me being snotty nosed and swollen-eyed, which is why it took me two rentals to get the courage to watch it. It didn’t disappoint. If I had to describe it to someone, I’d say it’s the first children’s film on the Holocaust. Seriously, I’ll probably borrow it again to show my 11 year-old cousin someday soon.

At this moment I am still reeling after watching Synecdoche, New York. I didn’t get what the fuck was going most of the time, but by the end it didn’t matter. I think I got it. It was actually pretty pessimistic and made you contemplate your own existence, while only mentioning God once throughout the whole film. That’s hard to do, and I think Charlie Kaufman really out did himself with this film. The scope was huge. I liked it. It wasn’t Eternal Sunshine-awesome, but it was alright.

It may seem like I watched these movies because they were critically acclaimed. Contrary, I forced myself to watch them because I really want to return them to Blockbuster as quick as possible and borrow Hot Rod again. :)

Yeah. I found this on youTube just now. Initially, I was just searching for random things when I came across this video to be an “Official Rescuer” for Invisible Children movement thats all the trend right now. This video (the one I linked) scares me a little. It makes it seem like a pyramid scheme- like a step-by-step guide on how to sell holiday cards door to door. The fact that they’ve garnered enough followers to their cause, as of now 1,148 video responses, each begging a celebrity to join them, in hopes that the celebrity would have searched their own name and see the video before April 25, 2009… seems farfetched.

This reminds me of those GreenPeace kids outside my school, ready to accost me with tales of the low state of the environment, ready to take my credit card information. They ask me, “Do you care about the environment?” and then they laugh when I say very seriously, “No, I don’t.” Then they giggle. Sorry, that really wasn’t a joke.

Anyway, the ‘Invisible Children’ thing is good cause, I guess- but I’m not sure this brass tactic is effective. It’s awkward and a little scary to see children my age begging celebrities for their endorsement or donation of time; isn’t it supposed to be the other way around?

Also, if you’re going to link your video under the tag, “Lonely Island” please make it just as awesome as the videos that are actually about The Lonely Island. I thought this video was funny, but then I started to feel sorry for myself. Not to be mean, but is the kind of kids that get in to NYU? Maybe I should apply next semester and transfer. Even though this video made me cringe, it gives me hope that I can get accepted to NYU and not have stupid, measly “University of Hawaii at Manoa” on my diploma!

500 Days of Summer trailer

I did a one man boycott of anything ‘Sundance’ this year due to the controversy with the owner of some of the theaters the selections were playing at, and his involvement with Proposition 8. It’s because of this that I’m that only now finding out about 500 Days of Summer. Besides having two of the greatest actors I have ever seen in the lead (Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel), by the way the trailer has me believing- the story is a fresh take on the romantic film genre.

I could go on and on, but the real reason I’m writing about this is because I’m in love with their clothes. Seriously! Look at Zooey’s costumes! They’re beautiful. I’d kill for that whole wardrobe. If I could pull off full bangs like her’s, without looking like I’ve just stepped off a boat from the Philippines, I’d grow my hair out in a second.

Another film I wanted to see more of, but am surprised at the lackluster reviews of, is Paper Heart, starring Michael Cera and his real-life girlfriend, Charlene Yi. After watching Charlene’s performance in Knocked Up years back, I went on a Myspace hunt for her profile. I found it after a few hours and after seeing her genuine talent in the comedy department, I can truly say that I’ve become a fan of hers. Anything that girl is in, I’ll watch.

My friend’s little brother just dropped off the poster he got autographed by Stan Sakai for me! I was super-excited and too much of a pansy to get one myself. I grew up watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo was in the cartoon series!

My brother had this action figure; it was released in 1988.

Oh, I HAVE to agree with this.
I’ve been lead to believe that as a comedian gets skinnier, they become less funny. Case in point: Will Sasso.

Even before my love for (newer) SNL, I grew up watching MadTV. Being from a rural community that consisted of mostly minorities, MadTV was the thing to watch. In the same way that some people grow up with right wing ideals, only to later establish themselves as staunch leftists, I loved MadTV- but have very recently started loving SNL.
My decline started with the sudden weight-loss of Will Sasso. He stopped being funny. I don’t know how to explain it, just that jokes fell short. It was like it wasn’t okay to laugh at him anymore. They even went as far as to write a skit about it. Soon after this, gradually, other characters on MadTV stopped being played as other cast members left, and my interest stopped.
Now look- MadTV is canceled!

In summation, Seth Rogen, I’m happy with him losing weight (especially for that kickass role he’s losing it for), but I agree- I prefer chubby Seth Rogen.

This was my Easter sunday. I started cleaning, then stopped halfway due to ADD, and started writing. THEN, I got distracted by the VooDoo Babies I bought yesterday. Super cute! Up until a minute ago, I’ve been trying to push having to watch the Where The Wild Things Are trailer. No real reason; I just wasn’t that in to the book when I was a kid, so I wasn’t nearly as excited as everyone is.

When I heard that re-shoots were done because test screenings with children proved the Wild Things were scary. “Hmm…” I thought to myself, “That’s odd.” Just now, after watching the trailer for the first time, I have to agree with those little kids, those Wild Things are FREAKING SCARY! It was like watching The Labyrinth all over again; or watching that scary-ass flying dog in The NeverEnding Story.

If I do end up watching this movie, I will need the company of close friends. I know I laugh a lot during horror films, but I was scared to death while watching The Last Mimzy. This proves that although you can be proficient in one area- in my case horror movie watching- you can still be extremely unprepared to undertake something relative, if not minimal. Apprently, this means watching live-action children’s films.
